Fourth of July

This year I had it off from work, but Peter still had to go to work. However, he ended up going in for an hour and then they let him go for green-time (basically he still go paid, but got to come home early). We were going to bar-b-que, but decided against it because the upstairs neighbors were having a bunch of people over and using the backyard. Plus it was super hot! Instead we took a walk with the dogs down to the Greenbelt where they were having a big Fourth of July celebration and had a band and a bunch of booths and such set up. After the walk down there and around for a while we were hot and tired so we ended up coming home and just getting some pizza. Then we just hung around the house with the fans running trying to keep cool until the big fireworks show at 10pm. Luckily we live right down the street from where they do the show and were able to just go and sit on our side yard. We took a few chairs and a small table out side and played some cards while waiting for the show to start. However, the show ended up being delayed for an hour... but it was still a great show and I love being able to see fireworks without having to spend the money. We did get some sparklers! I love the ones they have here because they are the metal ones so they are so much better than the ones they have in CA.

Basically where they do the fireworks is down by the Greenbelt (which is a trail that they have going around the snake river that's supposed to be a real touristy spot). Well the snake river is extremely unsafe and no one is supposed to go swimming. Apparently some people in the late 20's decided it would be a good idea to swim to an island in the middle of the lake to watch the fireworks. However, two came up and one didn't so that's what the delay was about. They had search and rescue searching for over an hour trying to find the young man, but no such luck so they went on and did the fireworks, which makes sense because they had A LOT of people there, some people travel from Utah and Wyoming . Then went back to searching for him and ended up finding him at about 1 am...unfortunately he didn't survive.

Besides that though it was a pretty good day. Here are a few pictures ... unfortunately Peter had the camera so I forgot to steal it and get atleast one picture of him lol

Chalkboard

So we had found this old chalkboard at DI and we bought a can of the chalkboard spray paint to redo it. That's the one I have been using and it has worked pretty well, but it wasn't that great quality. Then last week peter found an old vanity next to the dumpster and thought it would make a perfect chalk board (plus its over double the size). Peter sanded it down and we repainted the boarder. Then we got a can of chalkboard paint (rather than spray paint) so we could paint the layer on a little thicker. It turned out really well! I'm very pleased and excited to have a big chalkboard, plus it will be awesome for our soon-to-be little boy when he gets older.

I just have to decide how to decorate the boarder. We want it to be for our son, so we want it to be a kid-ish design. I'm thinking about cutting out stuff from the cricut and then using mod podge to glue them around the boarder. So far I'm trying to decide between zoo animals or dinosaurs. I want it to look cute, but not be too much. Also once we decide on a name (so I'll probably wait til after he is born) I want to maybe put his name across the top or bottom.
